Mercedes 2105 AMG…another glimpse

Mercedes-Benz is continuing to tease the upcoming 2015 Mercedes-AMG GT, and it’s mouthwatering.

Just like the SLS AMG it replaces, the Mercedes-AMG GT won’t be a track-tuned animal. Instead, it’ll be more of an all-round sports car to compete with the Porsche 911. Further down the road, a Black Series variant is expected and that will be more track focused.

While Mercedes has dropped these new teaser images of the car along with the previous ones showing the interior, it isn’t fully known what will power the Mercedes-AMG GT. However, it is possible that car will utilise a twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine or possibly a 4.0-litre V8.

We know already that the interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT boasts a fascinatingly exclusive look and feel, with the finest materials and outstanding workmanship combining to conjure up a setting that simply exudes class. As such, the exclusive interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT is enough to get one truly hooked on this vehicle even while it is still at a standstill

Mistubishi Evolution

The Vision Gran Turismo lineup for Sony’s “Gran Turismo 6″ is starting to fill out, with entries from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volkswagen all recently revealed. Now, Mitsubishi is joining the party with a sporty hybrid concept based on the XR-PHEV show car that debuted in Tokyo late last year. Called the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo (name long enough for you?), the car draws on the Japanese automaker’s rallying roots and is also meant to recall the form of an athlete. Mitsubishi says the design’s squat exterior proportions are inspired by a runner’s crouching start position, which evokes a sense of spontaneous power. Though the concept was designed to perform in a video game, Mitsubishi says it approached the project in the same way it would a real-life motorsports vehicle, tapping its Advanced Vehicle Research and Development Group, along with the Aerodynamic Development Group, to build the car in virtual space. The concept uses Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid EV technology, with a gasoline engine and electric motor transmitting power to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Mitsu’s S-AWC vehicle control system with active yaw control helps distribute drive forces evenly to all four wheels. The body uses carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP), and also incorporates front and rear diffusers. To get the car, first you need a PS3 and a copy of “Gran Turismo 6.” Once update 1.08 has been installed, you can purchase the car in the Vision GT section or win it by completing a lap in the most recent seasonal event, which is only available for a limited time. Check out the video below to see how the concept came together.

The Next Passat Revealed.

Details have emerged on the next Passat to be unveiled soon, and showcased at the Paris Motor Show in October. And after 41 years and 23 million+ sales, it is as relevant anc competitive as ever.

It is important to note the Passat offered in the U.S. and the one offered in Europe are different cars.

VW added through the use of advanced materials, including high-strength, hot-formed steel and aluminum in certain areas, the new Passat is up to 85 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, helping it to claim expected fuel-efficiency improvements of up to 20 percent.

Despite exterior dimensions that are actually marginally smaller than those of the previous Passat, interior space is improved, with more leg- and headroom, as well as increased luggage space, explained VW.

A highlight of the Passat’s new range of engines, said VW, is a high-performance, four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, bi-turbo diesel.  This engine will be available exclusively with a new seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid model will also be offered, with potential to travel 31 miles on battery power alone, and with a potential maximum range of around 600 miles.

Other new technology to be offered on the new Passat includes the Active Info Display, which replaces the instrument cluster with a fully configurable interactive 12.3-inch TFT display; a heads-up display; the latest Modular Infotainment System, including the Car-Net remote app; a further-developed 360-degree Area View function; and the latest generation of Park Assist.

VW stated this newly developed Park Assist includes the option for the car to park itself forwards into perpendicular spaces – useful, for example at supermarket car parks, where access to the trunk is important. It also includes a world-first Trailer Assist, which provides assistance when reversing a vehicle with a trailer attached – without the need for any modification or adaptation of the trailer.

Other safety technology VW mentioned for this Passat includes Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert; Traffic Jam Assist which makes stop-and-go driving more comfortable; Emergency Assist, which can potentially halt a vehicle when the driver is incapacitated; and the latest Front Assist system with City Emergency Braking, which optionally combines both radar and camera sensors to add pedestrian detection.

VW stated all new Passats will feature LED tail lights, while headlights will be halogen or LED.  In conjunction with Dynamic Light Assist, one of the two LED headlight options automatically adjusts the beam for maximum illumination of the road without dazzling other traffic.

The Next Passat Revealed.

The Unique Lambo Zagato

Innovative designer Zagato last teamed up with Lamborghini in 1996 with the Zagato Raptor, based on the Diablo, and now they’ve done it again with the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato.

This car, based on the Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 was commissioned by collector Albert Spiess. It has typical Zagato styling cues such as the double bubble roof, a wraparound windscreen (with wind deflector) along with the side intakes derived from the Raptor. this latest product is described as being a “modern collectible”, featuring a centrally-positioned intake on the roof and a shorter rear end which “reveals the brutality of the mechanical components.”

The first collaboration happened in 1965 for the 3500 GTZ. This latest one will remain a one-off project so only Albert Spiess will have the possibility of enjoying this heavily modified Gallardo.

The press release about the car follows;

Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato: the story

Cernobbio, May 2014. The beginning of the collaboration between Zagato and Lamborghini dates back to 1965 when the Milanese brand conceived two exemplars of the Lamborghini 3500 GTZ on the mechanical basis of the 350 GT.

During an official meeting in Sant’Agata Bolognese with Ing. Stanzani – body division – and Ing. Dallara – technical division – Elio Zagato, first son of founder Ugo, proposed the construction of a 350 GT with a special body for Marquis Gerino Gerini, former F1 pilot.

Zagato received a shortened chassis and dressed it with a light aluminum body with surfaces and volumes adopting the typical Zagato cut-tail: a solution which originated from the philosophy at that time for racing cars with a Zagato body and transferred with success to a more comfortable and well refined Gran Tourism car. The 3500 GTZ was officially introduced at the 1965 London Motor show. Some weeks after, Zagato received a new order from Dani Gambirasi, cousin of Giuseppe Pesenti, at that time Head of Lancia.

The official collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini continued in the early 90s as Zagato became the very first Total Design Centre worldwide using CAD-CAM system. Thanks to this process, Zagato started a new project for a Zagato-bodied Lamborghini. This car, named Raptor, was designed and built in only four months and was introduced officially at the 1996 Geneva Motor show.

On this occasion, Andrea Zagato and Michael Kimberly, Lamborghini CEO, established a new agreement to develop the future model line of the Bull company.

Zagato developed first the L147 (or Super Diablo), which was conceived with a very aggressive design, featuring many aeronautic elements, typical of Zagato philosophy (the double bubble roof and the big air intake for the rear V12 engine radiators). Soon after the LM 003 Borneo, a take on the LM002, was presented-the first Zagato SUV. The LAST Lamborghini Zagato, the 5-95, attends the 2014 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (Concept Cars and Prototypes’ class) as a traditional appointment for Zagato, but also as a fundamental statement during this year’s celebration of the 95th anniversary of the Company’s foundation.

Lamborghini 5-95: a collectible car

Cernobbio, May 2014. This project is based on an official collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and Zagato, with the purpose of creating a real contemporary collectible car. In 1965 Marquis Gerino Gerini was the promoter of the first Zagato-bodied Lamborghini, the 3500 GTZ, a “fuoriserie” based on the 350 GT mechanics. Nearly 50 years later Albert Spiess, one of the most significant Lamborghini worldwide collectors, gave Zagato the chance to dress the most successful model of all time in the Bull’s company history, in order to create a modern collectible car: the Lamborghini 5-95. Albert Spiess boasts an unprecedented collection including several one-offs and Lamborghini first cars, as well as some Zagato collectibles – instant classics – like Alfa Romeo S.Z. (1990) and R.Z. (1993), Aston Martin V8 Zagato (1985) and V12 Zagato (2012). He commissioned to the Milanese Atelier a modern collectible car on the occasion of the celebration of 95 years of Zagato (1919 – 2014).

The Milanese Atelier transformed the model that revolutionized Lamborghini’s history into a contemporary collectible. The Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato is based on the Gallardo LP570-4, the best seller in the first 50 years of Sant’Agata’s company (1963-2013).Zagato maintained all the technical constraints of the original project but has re-interpreted them according to its philosophy oriented towards functionalism and rationalism – typical values of the Milanese school. The Zagato body expresses the typical key values of an “instant classic”: fascinating, rare and a pure expression of the brands it stands for. The 5-95 was created with the only limitation of active and passive safety witch are the value of the donor car.

Andrea Zagato: “We have chosen the Gallardo because it is the most sensational project in Lamborghini’s history. An extraordinary car, perfect in engineering terms, that has brought the image of ‘the Bull’ from a ‘cottage industry’ to a worldwide major industrial reality. The Gallardo production figures exceeded the whole Lamborghini production since its foundation.”

Albert Spiess: “I always appreciated the ability of Zagato to create timeless lines with a forceful visual impact. I believe that a sensual design inspired by nature, together with the best technology, strike a perfect balance that is possible to achieve only in Italy. The 5-95 will be a fundamental piece of my collection.”

Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato: the Design

Cernobbio, May 2014. Two “strong” themes define the design in its whole: the volume of the front fender that bites the bonnet – integrating the functions of the lights and the secondary air intakes – and the rear end starting from the center of the car that gives it a thrust. On the front end a floating spoiler takes inspiration from the Lamborghini Raptor Zagato, coming to a firewall in carbon fiber that conceals the front air intakes. Continuous glass surfaces – a technical and stylistic theme launched by Zagato in the end of the 40s on the Panoramic bodies and re-applied in the 80s – surround the pillar-less body and, similarly to aeronautical cockpits, reduce noise and improve aerodynamics.

The side intakes, following the Lamborghini Raptor, have been visually reduced to the minimum thanks to an air scoop on the roof as well as additional apertures concealed in the glass surfaces. The air scoop is functionally integrated with the double bubble roof, a signature of Zagato design, directing the cooling to the intake manifold. The monolithic rear volume is chopped off by the typical truncated tail and reveals the brutality of mechanical components protruding from the area such as tail lamps heat release, aerodynamic features and the active spoiler.

There isn’t a sole gram of fat in a Lamborghini. It is thin and athletic, having a lot in common with the surfaces of a Zagato body, true to the rule that a car is as much efficient as it is compact.Zagato designers and engineers aimed to press the rear towards the engine and to increase the proportion of the front. As a result, the 5-95 Zagato’s volumes express a sense of energy through fluid and organic surfaces that recall an animal’s muscles as it is ready to leap forward.

The volumes intersect each other and suggest a jump, as if the central part of the front is ahead of the fender. To accentuate these proportions some solutions were introduced: in fact a new wind deflector was inserted at the base of the windscreen in order to increase the perceived length of the bonnet – this has a very precise aeronautical function because it improves the wind flow in the windscreen wiper area. In the same way, the rear volume has been slightly reduced introducing a “coda tronca” (truncated tail) to emphasize the perception of the leap.

Video: Man Throws Rock at Lamborghini Aventador

This video has recently surfaced online of a man hurling a rock at the side of a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster LP700-4.

The man’s shocking act seemed to be motivated by the Aventador driver “racing” down the street, although it doesn’t seem that the car went that fast. The Aventador driver stops for the guy standing in the middle of the road, and then BANG. He then drives away from the stone throwing lunatic, probably in an attempt to avoid further vandalism to his 700hp supercar, finished in a unique combination of matte black and striking yellow highlights. What would you have done?

The Lamborghini Aventador Roadster LP700-4 is powered by a 6.5 litre 700hp V12 engine, making it capable of 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 217mph.
